It’s been two years since the last release by Portland’s Charts, but next month they’re slated to put out an official self-titled debut full length.
[one-third][/one-third][two-thirds]Spring seems to have come in early and with full force this year in Portland, but we may as well just plunge straight into the next season already, because new music from the summery beach pop outfit Charts is officially here. Over the two years since their last release, Vacation EP, the band – led by guitarist/vocalist Michael Rowan – underwent a full lineup change. New members alongside Rowan include Anthony Brasson on drums, Luke Beckel (of Balto) on lead guitar, and Megs Domino (formerly of Bath Party) on bass.
In anticipation of their forthcoming debut release, Charts gave us the ultimate pleasure of teasing the world with a first taste of the new album through a premier of the lead single “Fade Away.” The track boasts similar surf-infused garage pop elements, and equally as tenacious of earworm vocal hooks, to their previous standout tunes “Settling Down” and “Get On The Bus.” And while still breathing some of the warm lo-fi sound they’ve become known for, execution on “Fade Away” is clearly at an all time high for the group. Produced by local master engineer Jeff Bond, Charts was recorded live at The Map Room in the summer of 2014.
The full unveiling of Charts is tentatively set for April, 20th but details on a label and an official release show are still undetermined. In the meantime, catch Charts this Saturday at Bunk Bar with Low Cut Connie and Kingdom of Smoth.
