With the overwhelming bounty of amazing things happening in Portland on any given weekend, sorting through it all to find the perfect activities to fill our invaluable free time can be taxing. To help make your planning a little easier, we’ve put together a list of the things we think are most worthy of your time.
This weekend in Portland: 3.13-3.15
St Patrick’s O’Chocolate McWhiskey
Everybody has a little Irish in them, right? At least probably more so on St. Patricks Day each year. With this years celebration right around the corner (Tuesday, 3.17), what better way to show your true Irish roots then to get the party started early. Is five days early too early? We don’t think so. Join the Portland Chocolate Mob Friday at the Portland Wine Storage for their annual “St. Patrick’s O’chocolate Mc’Whiskey” event as they pair up, you guessed it, delicious chocolates and whiskeys for a match made in Irish Heaven.

Nasalrod at The Know
Ugh, thank Christ weird ass experimental punk music still exists in Portland. Friday night Nasalrod bring their old school punk blend of Fear meets Jello Biafra with a dash of wacky Primus salted instrumentation to The Know on NE Alberta. Fools Rush, who will be releasing a 10” vinyl that night, play support along with 48 Thrills.
8pm, 21+, (link)
Hosannas and Crater at Rontoms
This week’s Rontoms Sunday Session will offer a gentle nightcap to your weekend. Hosannas, who are led by brothers Richard and Brandon Laws, are currently joined with a lineup consisting of two members from Aan, and play thoughtful, electronic driven experimental pop. They are joined by Crater, who may well be Seattle’s response to LA’s Warpaint.
9:30pm, 21+, free, (link)
420 College at the Convention Center
Alright hippies and investor types. Looking to get in on Oregon’s current green rush? Now’s your chance. If you’re looking to legitimize that basement pot grow of yours or maybe even start a dispensary, the 420 College’s Oregon Cannabis Institute has you covered with their two day event “Cannabis Business Seminar: How to Start a Cannabis Business in Oregon.” OCI will have a full network of cannabis industry related professionals on hand for your questions including a tax accountant, business law attorney, lenders, insurers, and more.
POW Fest (Portland Oregon Women’s Film Fest) at Hollywood Theater
Celebrating the evolving role of women in a historically unbalanced industry, POW Fest brings us a collection of wonderful films, exclusively from female directors. This 4 day film festival is a great showcase of some of today’s top female directors, as well as some of tomorrow’s brightest up-and-comers. Make your way down to the Hollywood Theater this weekend to check out the festivities.
$40 festival pass, $8-10 individual screenings (link)
