The reputation and talent of The Tamed West precede them.

Without having even officially released any recorded material to date, aside from one stellar demo track that surfaced in March of 2014, Portland’s garage/psych trio The Tamed West have emerged as one of the city’s most promising young acts strictly through captivating live performances and word of mouth. Lucky enough for audiences outside of the city however, their efforts have finally made their way to tape and are sure to draw attention on a much wider scale.

In preparation for the release of their self-titled debut EP, The Tamed West have given Noise & Color the pleasure of offering a first tickle of listener’s ears with the album’s lead single, “Trial.” The tune opens up with a simple yet driving rhythm that becomes quickly drenched in a reverberated wave of twinkling guitar that carries the song throughout what feels like a four and a half minute crescendo. But not necessarily in an over stimulating way, it’s subtle yet pounding. The upbeat garage-bred psych pop sound of “Trial” evokes memories of old disbanded favorites Gauntlet Hair or early Surfer Blood – back when they were great.

Catch The Tamed West this Sunday night at Bunk Bar as they celebrate the self-release of their anticipated debut EP. Plan ahead to show up early though as they open up the night at 9pm. Then stick around for locals Bearcubbin’! and LA’s Moon Honey.
