This Weekend in Portland: 4.3 – 4.5

With the overwhelming bounty of amazing things happening in Portland on any given weekend, sorting through it all to find the perfect activities to fill our invaluable free time can be taxing. To help make your planning a little easier, we’ve put together a list of the things we think are most worthy of your time.

Friday, April 3 – Orquestra Pacifico Tropical and Ancient Heat at Bunk Bar9pm, 21+, $10, (link)

What’s that? You don’t dance? Nonsense. This Friday night at Bunk Bar, even the least coordinated stiffs won’t be able to resist the rhythms brought on by OPT and Ancient Heat. It’s sure to a be a night of shenanigans, as OPT is fresh off a killer Treefort performance. Make sure to bring your dancing shoes.

Friday & Saturday, April 3 & 4Portland Spring Beer & Wine Festnoon-10pm, 21+, two-day entry starting at $10, (link)

We all know that Portland has an abundance of local breweries, wineries, and distilleries, and luckily, the Portland Spring Beer & Wine Fest is here to showcase a bunch of them this weekend. With over 30 breweries participating, this event is a beer-lover’s dream. On top of that, there will be a brewers panel, a wine panel, a distillers panel, and even some presentations from various restaurant-owners and the like over at the Culinary Stage.

Friday & Saturday, April 3 & 4 Doug Benson at Helium Comedy Club7:30pm & 10:30pm, 21+, tickets starting at $23, (link)

Even if you don’t smoke, you probably know who Doug Benson is. He has a laundry list of marijuana-related projects he has been a part of (Super High Me, Getting Doug With High, to name a couple), and then he even has some that aren’t primarily about getting stoned (Doug Loves Movies). The dude churns out an insane number of projects, and while they’re all good, his stand-up is definitely a treat, so now’s your chance to check it out.

Saturday, April 4Consumer, C.J. Boyd, and The Binary Marketing Show at Mothership Music8p, donation-based, (link)

If you’re looking for a more toned-down, dialed-back way to spend your Saturday night, Mothership Music may be your destination. The bill includes a variety of ambient and experimental artists, including Portland’s own Consumer, and the perpetually touring genius who is C.J. Boyd. Interesting arrangements, drawn-out forms, unorthodox approaches to music… what more could you want?

Sunday, April 5Moon by You and Be Calm Honcho at Rontoms 8:30pm, 21+, free, (link)

Oh, good old Rontom’s Sunday Sessions — consistently providing killer shows (for free, no less) every Sunday. This week, they’ve got the spacey, psychedelic, doo-wop influenced sounds of Moon by You, who will preceded by San Francisco’s Be Calm Honcho, who churn out bleary, feel-good, pop tunes. And ultimately, there’s nothing better than free music, so head on down to Rontom’s on Sunday, grab a few drinks, and catch some good tunes.
