This Weekend in Portland: 6.26-28

With the overwhelming bounty of amazing things happening in Portland on any given weekend, sorting through it all to find the perfect activities to fill our invaluable free time can be taxing. To help make your planning a little easier, we’ve put together a list of the things we think are most worthy of your time.

Friday – Genders, Helvetia, and Tiburones at Mississippi Studios – 9pm, $10, 21+, (link)

Not only has the heartfelt and teeth-gritting indie rock of Portland’s Genders worked it’s way into the hearts of NW music fans, but it has also worked the group into the inner circle of genre legends Built To Spill – with their second tour together kicking off next month. Catch Genders this Friday night at Mississippi Studios as they play alongside fellow inner-circle allies, Helvetia, who actually share former members of BTS and play a similar blend of melodic, distorted rock and roll.

Saturday – XRAY.FM Record Swap at Dig A Pony – 4-7pm, 21+, Free, (link)

What better way to cool off than to… well, not go outside at all. That’s exactly what you can do this Saturday at Dig A Pony, and as an added perk, dig through the meticulously assembled record collections of 25 XRAY.FM DJ’s. While you’re at it, have some happy hour food/drink specials.

Saturday – World Naked Bike Ride leaving from Colonel Summers Park – 8pm, Free, (link)

You know what they say: ain’t no bike ride like a naked bike ride! And on this weekend of ridiculous heat, there’s no better attire to ride in than no attire at all. Join thousands of other folks who will be participating in this year’s World Naked Bike Ride this Saturday evening. Gathering at Colonel Summers Park around 8pm and taking off just before 9pm, the main goal of the ride are to draw awareness to oil-free sustainability, body positivity and safer roads — more on that (and answers to some other questions you may have) can be found here.

Saturday – The We Shared Milk (reunion and farewell), And And And, and The Tamed West at Mississippi Studios – 9pm, $8 ADV $10 DOS, 21+, (link)

In what will surely be a show to remember, Portland mainstays The We Shared Milk will be reuniting to play one last gig, celebrating the release of their fourth Live From The Banana Stand record. Joining them will be renowned rippers And And And (fresh off their 9 day world tour) and garage-psych trio The Tamed West.

All Weekend – International Beer Festival at Holliday Park at Lloyd Center – 12-10pm, Free, 21+, (link)

Portland_Intl_BeerThis is the time of year when every weekend we seem to be having a beer festival, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. This weekend it’s the Portland International Beer Festival, and while entry is technically free, if you want to drink, you’ll have to pay. Not to worry, though — there are some great deals, and you can find them all at this link. There’ll be plenty of great food, live music, and too many brews to list!
