Last month we premiered “New Years Eve,” Bear & Moose’s lead single from their third and newest album Obstacle. Today we’re pleased to share the full album which is officially available digitally through Bandcamp, iTunes and Spotify.
Obstacle is the group’s strongest and most cohesive collection of songs to date, having found their niche in the groove-heavy slacker haze of late 70’s post-punk sounds. Straight to the point with 14 tracks in just over 30 minutes, the album wears it’s influences of The Modern Lovers, Television and Parquet Courts on it’s sleeve. Captured live on a 70’s Teac 4-track 1/4-inch-tape machine, the catchy and upbeat arrangements pack a full, energetic, and warm tone.
Unfortunately an official album release show isn’t in the cards any time soon as drummer Simon Lucas is out on another paid touring gig and bassist Steven Moore is off earning degrees in San Francisco. However guitarist/singer Eric Mueller is still actively writing and recording in new capacities, so keep an eye out for more adaptations of his particular iteration of revival slacker punk in the future.
Though the future of Bear & Moose may be up in the air, Obstacle memorializes the power trio’s songwriting capacity at it’s finest.
