This past January, Portland’s infectious pop outfit New Move released their long-awaited self-titled debut album on Tender Loving Empire‘s sister label, Bug Hunt. The album is already undeniably one of the strongest local releases of the year with catchy melodies straying from doo-wop to glam pop, all tied together through frontman Jesse Bettis’ subtle falsetto vocals and crisp song craftsmanship.
Today, we’re honored to share the music video for New Move’s “The City Life” of off that debut release, directed by Kevin Freeny. Much like the delayed release of the album, this video was finished and ready to release nearly a year ago, but then got shelved when Jesse was stabbed by an uninvited, drugged-out, house guest. An ironic fate considering how Bettis confronts his unconventional drinking problem in the the video’s plot resolution.
Catch New Move live today, Tuesday March 8, in store at Tender Loving Empire’s Hawthorne location, along with the sensational psychedelic shoegaze trio, Candace. Kicking off at 6pm, the show is free and all ages, with free beer provided by Gigantic Brewing for those over 21. This is one of those #rare, succulent, no-brainers that life sometimes throws at us. Indulge, my friends.
