We’ve officially entered another Portland summer, where day-hikes, farmers markets, movies in the park, beer festivals, backyard grillin’ and patio chillin’ are a part of the daily agenda. With the short window of warm, long nights we get each year, how can you blame us for taking every advantage of this glorious season as we can? Whether you’re just visiting, newly transplanted, or a seasoned local, you should know that it’s impossible to do summer right without sipping many an ice-cold beer on some of the amazing bar and restaurant patios the city has to offer. Below, check out our top fifteen spots for hanging out under the sun and enjoying the finer things in life.

Portland’s 15 Best Patio Bars

10 Barrel

Sun-Thurs 11am-11pm
Fri-Sat 11am-Midnight

The NW Pearl District’s newest hop-haven comes in the form of Bend-based 10 Barrel Brewing, who’ve taken their outdoor service game to the next level, literally, with an amazing rooftop patio. The newly-opened 1600 square-foot rooftop space celebrates its first Portland summer with 80 seats and sun-soaked views. Order pub grub such as mussels and frites, bacon jam burgers, or build-your-own pizzas while sipping their award-winning Crush cucumber sour beer.

Apex Bar

Open Daily 11:30am-2:30am

Southeast Division’s Apex Bar provides patrons with over 50 beers on tap (not to mention 250+ bottles), and a great patio for enjoying them. The tap list is constantly changing, but you can check out their current list on their website. This bike-friendly bar has pinball and cold taps at affordable prices. A few things to know before you go: the patio is not dog-friendly, it’s cash-only, and it doesn’t serve food. However, Los Gorditos next door pairs pretty damn well with a few tasty pints.

Bar Bar

Open Daily 11am-2pm
Happy Hour Daily 4-6pm

The former Baptist church turned music venue, Mississippi Studios and Bar Bar provide one of the city’s most popular patios. With exceptionally curated live music happening here most nights of the week, come to catch your favorite local and touring bands and stay for one of their famous burgers. Where else in town can $10 bucks score you a grass-fed Painted Hills cheeseburger topped with onion rings, with a side of fries and a Rainier? Enjoy summer evenings on the massive Bar Bar patio with a date, sipping a cocktail by the fire-pit and watching classic black and white movies on the outdoor screen.

Mon-Fri 11am-Late
Sat-Sun 10am-Late
Happy Hour Daily 3-6pm

It’s hard to think of a more well-rounded bar and restaurant in Portland than EastBurn. The joint has it all: an amazing happy hour, late-night menu, excellent selection of craft beers, and three different spaces that are each entirely unique. The upstairs dining room offers a seasonal menu, movies on a big screen, and live music. Downstairs, you’ll find skee-ball, DJs, and free stand-up comedy. Then there’s the patio, equipped with swinging chairs, fire-pit tables, and a selection of fun board games. Come on Tuesdays when craft pints are only $2.50 all day, which is one of the best deals in Portland.

Green Dragon

One of only a handful of country bars in Portland, Southeast Division’s Landmark Saloon is the place to go for live honky tonk, cold beers, and a spacious outdoor patio. Live music happens nightly and Wednesdays are for the appropriate Whiskey Wednesdays. The patio has a food cart, corn hole, and sunny space that encourages drinking vodka-spiked sweet tea. The food is no-frills but good, the crowd is chill, and no one cares what you’re wearing. Landmark Saloon is the perfect old-school escape in New Portland.

Sunday 11am-10pm
Happy Hour Mon-Fri 3-5pm and during all Blazers/Timbers Games

Northeast’s Migration Brewing has a lot to offer: excellent beer, a menu that goes beyond wings and nachos, and a comfortable outdoor space. Stake a claim at an umbrella-shaded picnic table and order a summer-worthy beer. A suggestion? Happy Hour Daily 4-6pm and Monday all night

The alphabet district’s North 45 is known for four things: Belgian beer, whiskey, mussels, and an epic patio. If you’re a fan of any of these things, there’s no doubt you’ll feel right at home in the neighborhood pub. In perfect homage to the fantastical Tom Robbins novel, visiting Roadside Attraction is like being transported to another world. This Southeast dive bar is, like all good things, unique, lovable, and a little weird. Although it’s a cash-only bar, and the quirky decor makes it look like one big garage sale, it’s a local favorite for good reason. Throw back a cold one on their foliage-filled patio, complete with a fire-pit, picnic tables, swings, and tons of random knick-knacks. Fan of cheap beer? It’s one of the few remaining places in the city to get one.
