Interested in an internship with Noise & Color PDX? We offer hands-on experience in the fields of editing, journalism, photography and social marketing, that may be used for school credit. Programs operate on a quarterly basis, but can be tailored to accommodate schedules. Applications accepted on a rolling basis. You can find more information on available internships below.

Editorial interns will be required to attend content planning meetings with managing editors, and each month pitch 5-7 locally-focused, timely, and socially relevant story ideas – in the areas of art/culture/film/food/music/outdoor/travel – to be assigned to contributing writers. Interns will be responsible for managing and distributing Noise & Color’s monthly newsletter. This requires: rounding up 3-5 of the most significant stores from the past month and writing short synopses for each; generating 3-5 preview synopses for the most significant stories coming up in the next month; then submitting drafts for review by managing editors before distributing to subscribers.
Journalism interns will be responsible for pitching locally-focused art/culture/film/food/music/outdoor/travel related stories to managing editors, and as assigned, interns will write 1-3 stories to be published per month (frequency variable based on details of each assignment). As a writer for N&C PDX, you’ll often be working with one of our contributing photographers to help capture the best visual content to accompany your written piece. Please have an understanding of the N&C PDX brand and voice. We strive to publish content with personality and conviction while putting a spotlight on local culture.
Photography interns will be responsible for pitching locally-focused photo gallery ideas (examples: World Naked Bike Ride, Red Bull’s Flugtag, PDX Pop Now, etc) to managing editors, and shooting projects as assigned. As a photographer for N&C PDX, you’ll also often work with a writer to capture visual content to accompany written stories. Assignments are varied, including coverage of concerts, events, restaurants, nature photography, and more. Please have an understanding of digital formats, post-processing, and proper compression for web.
Social Marketing Interns will be responsible for maintaining a social media calendar, and updating the N&C PDX social channels (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) with new content from the publication (typically 5 pieces of content each week). Additionally, interns are suggested to utilize our social channels to interact with other local businesses and brands to increase our online presence. Interns may have opportunities to utilze press passes on behalf of N&C to attend and cover events on social media.

Applicants must be actively enrolled in college, based in Portland, and have a comfortable foothold on local culture and lifestyle. Working in media, interns will have the opportunity to take advantage of press passes to attend and cover a variety of events and happenings – from concerts to gallery openings, fashion shows, and more. Is your favorite band in town next month? Is there a local beer fest you want to attend? Let one of the editors know and we can try to line something up.
